Track and field: Newport boys win league dual-meet title

COSTA MESA - David Sprenger and Alec Urtu won two events each for
Newport Harbor High’s boys track and field team Thursday as the host
Sailors defeated Woodbridge, 80-55, to clinch the Sea View League
dual-meet championship at Orange Coast College.
Sprenger was first in the long jump (20 feet, 9 1/2 inches) and triple
jump (42-5 3/4), and Urtu captured the 1,600 (4:39.9) and 3,200 (10:22),
as the Sailors finished unbeaten in four league dual meets.
Other individual winners for Harbor included Dartangan Johnson in the
200 (23.2), Zach Zarnow in the 300 intermediate hurdles (44.5) and Rion
McKinney in the shot put (50 feet).
In the girls meet, Woodbridge improved to 3-0 in league with a 78-58
victory over the Sailors (3-1).
Sophomore Jillianne Whitfield won the shot put (33-11) and discus
(114-11 1/2) for Newport Harbor, which also had individual wins from
Ashley Harrison in the 100 (12.7), Lauren Paul in the 3,200 (11:56.9),
Elizabeth Clayton in the 110 high hurdles (16.6) and Jennifer Ryder in
the 300 intermediates (49.7).
