Prep swimming: Sea Kings sweep Mustangs

CORONA DEL MAR - The Corona del Mar High boys and girls swim teams

soundly defeated Pacific Coast League visitor Costa Mesa Wednesday.

CdM senior Sherwin Kim was the lone double-individual winner in the

boys meet, won by the Sea Kings, 120-35. Kim won the 200-yard individual

medley (2:14.12) and the 100 freestyle (51.10).

The Sea Kings won 10 of 11 boys events, including individual triumphs

by Matt Meyer (200 free in 2:03.60), James Strack (50 free in 23.55),

Kevin Amendt (100 butterfly in 1:01.91), Marcello Pantuliano (500 free in

5:36.35) and Ali Kattan (100 backstroke in 1:06.94).

Costa Mesa’s Brian Tipton topped the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.37) for the Mustangs’ only triumph.

The Sea Kings improved to 2-3-2, 2-2 in league.

Coach Doug Volding’s CdM girls squad (4-2, 3-1 in the PCL) won every

individual event and swept five events to earn a 118-40 win.

Kim McKay was a double winner (100 free and 100 back) for the Sea

Kings, while Natalie Wayte (200 free), Niki Hendrickson (200 IM), Jordan

Anae (50 free), Kelli Kline (100 fly), Hayley Sheetz (500 free) and Flo

Rodenhuis (100 breaststroke) won one event each.

Costa Mesa’s quartet of Carly Millian, Allyson Harris, Lacey Navarette

and Katie Thorsness won the 400 free relay (4:38.14).

A select group of the Sea Kings will compete in the preliminaries of

the Millikan Southern Section Relays today at Belmont Plaza.
