Prep baseball: Eagles sweep Lobos

COSTA MESA - The Estancia High baseball team exploded Monday,
putting together its most productive offensive performances of the season
to sweep a nonleague doubleheader with visiting Los Amigos, 11-6 and
1-9.
The Eagles (3-9-1), who had previously tied and lost to the Lobos,
coached by former Estancia assistant Dave Austin, led the entire day to
triple their victory total.
Senior Casey Gates pitched a complete game to earn the victory in the
opener and senior Justin Lund notched the second-game win, though he
required some relief help.
Lund launched a two-run double early in the opening game to kick-start
the offense, but several of his teammates took over from there.
“It think it was our best offensive day of the season,” Estancia
senior Mitch Valdes said. “We were consistently hot in both games.”
Other details were not available.
Estancia does not play again until returning to Pacific Coast League
action Tuesday at Laguna Beach High. The Eagles, however, will hold a
fund-raiser game Wednesday, in which they will try to play 100 innings
from 8 a.m. until sundown.
