COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High softball team rallied for a 5-1
victory over Pacific Coast League rival Corona del Mar to earn third
place in the Costa Mesa Invitational Saturday at TeWinkle Park.
Ann Marie Topps and Jane-E Yamamoto both went 2 for 3 and drove in a
run for the Mustangs (3-1), who also had two hits from Michelle Miller.
Topps also made an over-the-shoulder catch of a would-be single to center
field to help thwart a bases-loaded opportunity for CdM in a scoreless
fourth.
Mesa outhit the Sea Kings, 10-5, after falling in the championship
semifinal to Anaheim, 4-1.
CdM’s Casey Bunney doubled in a run and Amy Tyson also doubled against
Mesa.
Katy Renish had two of Mesa’s three hits against Anaheim.
