Corona del Mar’s club roller hockley team rallied to defeat Santa
Margarita, 5-4, in an IHF game Tuesday at the Gretzky Center in Irvine.
CdM opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal by captain Blake Smith,
who intercepted a pass and drove a long slap shot past Santa Margarita
goaltender Scot McCarron.
Santa Margarita’s Sean Rosenbaum followed with a pair of goal to give
his squad a 2-1 advantage in the first period, but CdM’s Dave Bolton
redirected a pass that found Pat Franta’s blade. Franta flipped the puck
in the net over a sprawling McCarron.
Santa Margarita recaptured the lead when Charlie Kallen’s slap shot
beat CdM goaltender Eric Mirowitz to end the period.
In the second period, Smith scored on a slap shot from the red line to
knot the score, 3-3. Adam Freede then stickhandled through the Santa
Margarita defense to put CdM ahead for good with two unassisted goals.
Santa Margarita pulled its goaltender with less than two minutes
remaining. With five attackers on the rink, Santa Margarita’s Kallen
deflected Zack Miller’s shot into the CdM net as time expired.
CdM piled up 22 shots while Santa Margarita took 23.
