COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College baseball team lost just its
second game this season after a 12-7 nonconference setback to visiting
Palomar Wednesday.
The Pirates (10-2), ranked No. 6 in the state’s preseason poll, were
done in by Palomar’s nine-run fifth inning. OCC sophomore Scott Beerer
went 3 for 5, including two doubles, with three RBIs.
Coast Coach John Altobelli said the Pirates’ relief pitching “didn’t
get the job done,” and that was the difference.
The loss ended nonconference play for the Pirates. They will open the
Orange Empire Conference season Saturday at noon, playing at Mt. San
Antonio.
