Girls soccer: Tars’ Burlingham Parade All-American
- Share via
Newport Harbor High junior girls soccer standout Amy Burlingham has
collected another prestigious honor, having been named All-American in
Sunday’s edition of Parade Magazine.
Burlingham, who was named under-16 All-American earlier this year by
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, said she was
surprised and honored by the latest accolade.
“To even be considered as an All-American took my by surprise,” she
said.
A speedy forward who was second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division
II as a sophomore, Burlingham estimated she has scored seven goals this
year for the Sailors (12-6-4), who defeated University, 3-1, Friday in
the first round of the CIF Division II playoffs.
Her explosiveness up front has helped the Sailors make back-to-back
postseason appearances and post the program’s first three playoff wins
the last two years.
Burlingham was among 12 forwards named to the Parade squad, which also
included 12 midfielders, eight defenders and three goalies. Only 11 of
the 35 players selected are juniors.
Burlingham said she is already narrowing down her list of prospective
college programs, but declined to be more specific.
In addition to All-CIF recognition last year, she was first-team
All-Sea View League. She is expected to repeat both of those honors this
season.
Also a sprinter on the Newport Harbor track and field team, Burlingham
will continue her prep soccer season Wednesday, when the Tars visit
Riverside Poly for a second-round playoff game at 3 p.m.
