Slammers come on strong

The Newport Beach Slammers girls under-10 soccer team took first
place at the San Bernardino Celtic Cup Tournament.
The Slammers battled to a 3-3 tie with the San Diego Surf White in the
championship game and came away with a victory after edging San Diego by
one goal in penalty kicks.
In qualifying games, the Slammers defeated the Surf White, 2-1, shut
out the Westside Breakers, 5-0, and beat Arsenal FC, 3-1.
Zoe Dickson was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She was
joined on the Slammer offense by Gabriella Trenton, Abbey Georgianni and
Danielle Wisniewski.
Also contributing to the team’s effort were Cynthia Bui, Kali
Fournier, Gillian Hogan, Stephanie Horwitz, Arielle Lysacek and Taylor
Nicolosi. Kate Baldoni was solid in the net.
The Slammers advance to the State Cup, which determines the California
State Champions in different age groups.
