Community college basketball: OCC men and women lose
- Share via
IRVINE - The Orange Coast College women’s basketball team will most
likely lose its 10th-ranked position in the state after a 76-67 Orange
Empire Conference loss at Irvine Valley Friday. The OCC men also lost to
the Lasers, 61-48.
Coach Mike Thornton’s fears of all OEC teams being dangerous came to
life as the Lasers’ women’s team (1-1 in conference) shot 63% in the
second half to maintain its advantage it held at halftime (30-20).
The Pirates (14-5, 1-1) shot 26% for the game (16 of 60) as they
struggled to find rhythm.
Meanwhile, Coach Steve Spencer’s men’s team didn’t get enough
production from its big three, Stephon Seales, Mark Meyers and Ryan
Webster. The Lasers took advantage of their free throws, sinking 15 of
22, while the Pirates (4-12, 1-1) shot just 4 of 7.
