Police investigating possible hate crime

The Huntington Beach Police Department is investigating an incident of
graffiti on the home of a Huntington Beach woman as a possible hate
crime.
Barbara Coe, founder and chair of the California Coalition for
Immigration Reform, returned to her home on Castle Drive about 3 p.m.
after being gone for two hours to find the words “racist” and “anarchy”
spray painted on the garage with other profanities painted on the
sidewalk, said Huntington Beach Police Lt. Luis Ochoa.
“It was pretty gross, I was in shock,” said the 68-year-old Coe. “I
think the rally on Dec. 8 and this are related.”
Her group organized the rally at Anaheim City Hall opposing the
Anaheim Police Department’s recent decision to accept Mexican consulate
cards as identification. She also was one of the authors of Proposition
187, the anti-illegal immigrant initiative, in 1994.
