Estancia rolls, 48-32

Estancia High’s girls basketball team made a rather significant
statement Saturday, suffocating Pacific Coast League rival University,
48-32, to claim third place at the Jim Hill Memorial Tournament at
Mission Viejo High.
The Eagles (5-6), who had lost twice earlier to University, turned it
on in the second quarter with a 20-7 run and were never threatened in the
second half.
Xochitl Byfield, a 5-foot-8 junior, led the way with 15 points, and
was backed up by the play of Tisha Gray (12 points), Trisha Wase (nine
points) and Crystal Mino (eight points).
It was Estancia’s fourth victory in the six-day tournament.
The Eagles return to the floor on Wednesday with a 10 a.m. date with
highly regarded North Torrance in the Marina Tournament.
