Girls soccer: Mesa earns two shutouts

Costa Mesa High defeated Trabuco Hills, 2-0, and Irvine, 2-0, in
pool play of the Ocean View girls soccer tournament at Golden West
Saturday.
Against Trabuco Hills, Sharon Day and Jenny Sparks had first-half
goals with assists from Lisa Dunn and Kristen Bagwell. Kaitlyn Gentling
made nine saves to earn the shutout.
Gentling also led the way against Irvine, making three saves to earn
her fourth shutout of the season for Costa Mesa (4-2).
Day scored both goals with assists from Dunn and Natalee Schoetler.
“We got inspired play from everybody,” Mustangs’ Coach Dan Johnston
said. “I was pleased with our defense. They were all covering well for
each other.”
The Ocean View Tournament continues on Saturday. Costa Mesa will play
at 10 a.m.
