Boys and girls cross country: Estancia boys claim PCL crown

ORANGE - The Estancia High boys cross country team placed five
runners in the top 10 to win its fifth straight Pacific Coast League
title at the PCL Finals at Irvine Regional Park Friday.
Corona del Mar’s girls squad won the PCL title as well, and like the
Estancia boys, swept in dual meets this year and captured first place at
the league finals.
Coach Charlie Appell’s Eagles placed five runners in the top 10,
including Humberto Rojas (15:14), Mike Casillas (15:24) and Aaron Van
Geem (15:43) completing a 1-2-3 finish. Abel Flores (15:50) came in fifth
for Estancia, while Gerardo Orozco (16:01) finished ninth. Costa Mesa’s
Marco Huipe also grabbed All-PCL laurels, finishing in the top 10
(personal-best 16:01). Estancia’s Panfilo Elias (16:01 just missed the
top 10 by a fraction of a second.
Diana Rosete led the Eagles’ girls squad with a fourth-place finish in
18:07, while Costa Mesa’s Christine Bjelland came in seventh
(personal-best 18:39).
The Eagles took fifth in the PCL, while the Mustangs came in sixth.
