A calendar of Halloween-themed events in Newport-Mesa

TODAY

Dr. Demento will make a special appearance as the grand marshal in the

Halloween Hearse Procession at 10 a.m. in Costa Mesa in conjunction with

the second annual Halloween Hearse, Bug and Classic Car Show held from 10

a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Orange County Market Place at the Orange County

Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Dr. Demento will host two shows

at 12:30 and 1 p.m. and have an autograph session at 1:30 p.m. $2, free

A Fall Family Fun Festival will be held at Mariners Elementary School

from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2100 Mariners Drive, Newport Beach. The

school’s auditorium has been transformed into a graveyard and will be the

place to see scary ghoulish tales throughout the day. There will be games

The ninth annual Top Dog Fashion Show, including a Halloween costume

costume, will take place at 11 a.m. at the Newport Dunes Resort, 1131

Back Bay Drive, Newport Beach. Gary Spears of KIIS-FM (102.7) will

moderate the show. $7 to register a dog in a contest, free otherwise.

The second annual Halloween Window Painting Contest sponsored by the

Newport Beach Community Services Department will take place from 11 a.m.

to 1:30 p.m. Artists will be assigned a window at either Westcliff Plaza

or Newport North Shopping Center. Prizes will be awarded in each age

Three Dog Bakery’s third annual Howl-O-Ween Party and Costume Contest

for all dogs will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at Three Dog Bakery, 924,

The Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort’s Free Family Flicks series will

conclude with “The Ghost & Mr. Chicken” at dusk. The Dunes is at 1131

Trilogy Playhouse will present Fred Carmichael’s “Frankenstein --

1930” through Sunday. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and

The Orange County Young Professionals will hold its fourth annual

Masquerade Ball for the Arts from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Orange County

SUNDAY

Master pumpkin carver Mike Valladao will carve two giant pumpkins and

be the featured act during the Orange County Market Place’s fourth annual

Trick or Treat Festival from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orange County

Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. The festival also includes free

trick or treating for children 12 and younger in costume, a pumpkin patch

and a vendor from Dodger Stadium tossing peanuts. $2, free for children

The 10th annual Pumpkins and Pancakes to benefit the Friends of Court

Appointed Special Advocates and Child Abuse Services Team will begin at 8

a.m. at the Crate & Barrel wing of South Coast Plaza at 3333 Bear St.,

Costa Mesa. More than 1,500 children and their families are expected to

attend the breakfast, which will also feature arts and crafts,

face-painting and trick-or-treating. $20, $15 if purchased in advance.

The Pacific Chorale will present Verdi’s “Requiem” at 7 p.m. Sunday at

the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa

Mesa. The concert will feature soprano Camellia Johnson, mezzo-soprano

TUESDAY

The Predator, a digitally designed structure, will be open for viewing

through Nov. 18 at UC Irvine’s Beall Center for Art & Technology at the

Claire Trevor School of the Arts. The piece was created by Argentine

painter Fabian Marcaccio and Los Angeles architect Greg Lynn. Gallery

hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and noon through 8 p.m.

“A Spooky Special” will be held at 7 p.m. for boys and ghouls at the

Retailers at Fashion Island will welcome trick-or-treaters into their

stores from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Children will receive treasure maps directing

them to various activities, including a costume parade from 4 to 4:30

p.m. at Bloomingdale’s Courtyard and photo opportunities at Fashion
