IRVINE - Led by the defensive efforts of goalie Eric Mirowitz, the
Corona del Mar High roller hockey club team defeated Fountain Valley,
4-3, Tuesday at the Wayne Gretzky Center in Irvine.
In the final minute, Mirowitz turned back a 6-on-3 assault when
Fountain Valley pulled its goaltender, while CdM’s Cole Reddin was in the
penalty box. Mirowitz stopped 25 of 28 shots as CdM was charged with
seven penalties, playing short-handed for nearly one-third of the
45-minute game.
Corona’s captain Blake Smith scored two goals, each assisted by Adam
Freede, including a shot that proved to be the game-winner at the end of
the second period. Freede and Danny Tarkeshian scored a goal each in the
first period, with Reddin assisting on Tarkeshian’s goal.
CdM’s will resume action Wednesday at 7 p.m., when it faces Edison at
the Gretzky Center in Irvine.
