Orange Coast College will soon have more resources to attract students
to the teaching profession.
The community college has been selected to take part in the Teaching
Scholar Partnerships program and will receive a two-year grant of about
$30,000.
The program is designed to encourage community college students in
science, mathematics, engineering and technology to share their knowledge
with kindergarten through 12th-grade students and consider teaching as a
career.
OCC students are already teaching science to local elementary school
students through the college’s Westside Science Project. For the past
year, Orange Coast students have been working at three elementary schools
on Costa Mesa’s Westside.
OCC was one of 10 community colleges in the country to be selected to
take part in the program.
