PHOTO OF THE WEEK

-- Don Leach

The CHOC Walk was the last of four consecutive Sunday community walks

I had to cover. I was a bit “walked out,” but the CHOC Walk is the best

of them all and certainly a good cause. The combination of color, kids

and spirit always makes this a fun one to shoot.

While shooting, I noticed a large group of people with yellow shirts

coming toward me. They were walking in honor of Alex Tobin, a youngster

who died in ’96 of a lung condition. In good, though serious, spirits,

they remembered a son, nephew and brother. One girl in particular, Anna

Tobin, seemed to carry the proud spirit of her brother. She had a

purposeful look as she waved her flag.

After choosing them, I ran way ahead hoping I could get a picture of

Anna that would reflect the color and attitude of the event. It was an

obvious choice.

It took several tries, me running up, waiting, shooting and missing,

then running up again.

Finally, I crouched and aimed steady as the yellow shirts approached,

Anna in front. There was a break in the walkers this time leaving just

enough space for a nice, clean picture. It was a nice touch when Anna put

her hand on her heart.
