At Tuesday’s Ocean View School District board meeting, teacher Colette
Wright was given the Wave Maker Award. Wright began her career as a
speech and language specialist in 1972 and has worked at Crest View and
Harbour View elementary schools. She is currently the speech and language
specialist at Lake View Elementary School and also serves as the school’s
administrative assistant. In 1998 Wright was named Ocean View Teacher of
the Year.
Pauline Tressler, principal at Lake View, presented Write with the
award.
“The administration, staff and parents at Lake View all value the
outstanding services she provides to the school on a daily basis and are
most gratified to have the opportunity to honor her for her many
contributions,†Tressler said.
The Wave Maker Award is present to an Ocean View School District
employee who has achieved merit through several years of service.

The Huntington Beach Education Foundation wants everyone to rally
around their Touchdown For Technology fund-raiser.
The event will be held on Nov. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Meadowlark
Golf Course clubhouse and will feature guest speakers, special gifts, a
silent auction and dinner.
“You can donate a product or service to the silent auction or purchase
tickets or a table for the event,†said event co-chair Paul Coulter.
The independent, community-based nonprofit organization was founded in
1987 and has put more than $240,000 into its community schools for the
purchase of technology, teaching of critical thinking and curriculum
materials that address at-risk students.
The eight elementary schools and two middle schools in the district
will benefit from the funds raised at the event.

A place to go
There’s no reason for students to be bored this fall. The Huntington
Beach branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley is offering a
series of fun fall classes for students.
There are programs before and after school and full-day programs will
be offered on holidays. The after school program will run Monday through
Friday after school until 6 p.m. and the all day programs will be held
6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Daily activities include arts and crafts, field trips, educational
activities, sports, sports clinics, computers, special events and an
indoor gymnasium.
Specialty programs include acting, Tae Kwon Do, roller hockey,
basketball leagues and more.
For teenagers a free drop-in program will run daily from 3 to 8 p.m.
and is open to students in sixth grade through high school.
The after school program charge for students in first through eighth
grade is $40 a week and the kindergarten program is $50 a week. A $15
annual membership also may be obtained and is valid until Aug. 2002.
Transportation to and from the College View, Golden View, Hope View,
Huntington Seacliff, Lake View, Perry, Peterson, Smith, Sun View and
Dwyer, Mesa View and Spring View middle schools is available.

Where are they now?
It’s reunion time at two Huntington Beach high schools.
Edison High School’s Class of 1981 has set the date of Saturday, Oct.
20, for its 20th reunion. The event will be held at the Hilton Hotel in
Costa Mesa.
Marina High School’s Class of 1971 will celebrate its 30th reunion on
Nov. 3 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Costa Mesa.
