JC sports: OCC remains perfect in women’s water polo

COSTA MESA - The Orange Coast College women’s water polo team,
ranked No. 1 in the state, defeated visiting Cypress, 13-3, Wednesday in
an Orange Empire Conference game.
Nicole Sonnenfeld and Devon Wright scored three goals each for OCC
(22-0, 5-0 in conference), leading a contingent of nine different players
to reach inside the cage. Cypress fell to 13-13, 2-4.
Orange Coast has won 16 of its 22 games by at least nine goals.
Neisha Hoagland and Erica Anderson each had three assists for the
Pirates, while Wright and Christine McDonald had two apiece. OCC goalie
Casey Finnegan had eight saves in three quarters of action, while starter
Heather Deyden had two.
The Chargers’ Melanie Craig, who leads the state with 90 goals, was
held to two by the OCC defense.
Orange Coast returns to action Friday in the Long Beach City
Tournament.
