Men’s golf: UCI wins tournament
SIMI VALLEY - UC Irvine placed first out of 24 teams in the
Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament that
concluded Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
The Anteaters finished with a 54-hole score of 871. Cal State
Bakersfield (882) was second, followed by Idaho (883) and Long Beach
State (885).
Brandon Hillpot of UC Riverside was the tournament medalist with an
8-under-par 208.
UC Irvine junior Ryan Armstrong finished fifth at even-par 216 after
shooting a 74 on Tuesday. Junior Jeff Coburn tied for sixth with a 2-over
218 with a 79 in the final round.
Brandon Murray, who shot a 78 Tuesday, tied for 12th place at
3-over-219.
UCI’s Mike Lavery (221) placed 19th and Nate Yates (225) tied for
32nd.
The Anteaters return to action next Monday and Tuesday in the Pacific
Intercollegiate tournament at The Reserve Golf Club in Stockton.
