Women’s soccer: Biola shuts out Lions

COSTA MESA - Biola University, tenth-ranked in the NAIA, needed
only 80 minutes to earn a 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 31-29) Golden State Athletic
Conference win over the Vanguard women’s volleyball team Thursday.
Vanguard’s Megan Godfrey led all players with 14 kills and also
contributed a team-high 20 digs as the Lions dropped to 3-17, 1-10 in the
GSAC.
Biola (16-9, 8-3), 10th-ranked in the National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics, mounted an early 10-4 lead in Game 3, but the
Lions fought back and came within, 14-11. Carly Birkhauser, who had 7
kills, gave the Lions a late lead, 29-28, on a kill down the far
sideline. The Eagles tied the score and proceeded to victory on a
Vanguard attacking error.
The Lions continues GSAC action Saturday, when they host Azusa
Pacific.
