Boys and girls cross country: Estancia sweeps at Yucaipa
YUCAIPA - The Estancia High boys and girls cross country teams won
their overall titles and the school won the sweepstakes title in Division
III at the Yucaipa Invitational Saturday.
Humberto Rojas led the boys with his first-place finish in 16:19, as
Estancia earned 28 points to second-place Bloomington’s 129.
Mike Casillas followed in second (16:33), while Aaron Van Geem came in
sixth (17:15), Panfilo Elias (ninth in 17:48), Gerardo Orozco (10th in
17:54, Abel Flores (12th in 18:01) and Francisco Morales (30th in 19:18)
also contributed to the victory.
The Estancia girls won first place with 37 points, while second-place
Beaumont finished with 83.
Estancia junior Diana Rosete won the meet in 19:29, as the Eagles
scored each of the five girls who ran, including Ludi Valdez (5th in
22:05), Judy Hernandez (8th in 23:22, Hanni Geider (9th in 23:33), and
Marilyn Reich (14th in 24:19).
“(Estancia did) very good considering the heat,†Estancia Coach
Charlie Appell said. “We had one boy (Andrew DeAugustino) on the JV, who
finished 32nd but because of him we finished third as a team, and won the
sweepstakes.â€
Estancia’s frosh/soph boys and girls teams won the meet and the junior
varsity girls also came in first, while the junior varsity boys took
third to bring home the sweepstakes win.
The Eagles return to Pacific Coast League action, Thursday at 3:15
p.m., when they host crosstown rival Costa Mesa.
