Coast wins, 2-0

Orange Coast College’s women’s soccer team narrowly avoided a

scoreless tie Tuesday, scoring twice in the final six minutes to take a

2-0 Orange Empire Conference victory at Santiago Canyon.

Kristen Hamman finally broke through for Coast in the 84th minute with

her third goal of the season. Marissa McGregor was credited with her

team-high eighth assist of the season. Four minutes later, the Bucs put

the game out of reach as Fernandz Velasco scored her third goal of the

season off a good, hooking corner kick from Alicia Santiago. Santiago now

has four assists.

Coast outshot the Hawks, 22-7. Coast keeper Laurie Perkins had six

saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

The Pirates are now 9-3, 5-1 in the OEC.
