Junior Midget Dolphins roll in opener, 44-0
Quarterback Brian Shrock threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns and
the Huntington Beach Junior Midget Dolphins launched their season
Saturday in spectacular fashion by whipping the Tri-City Steelers, 44-0.
Running back Jeff Van Doornum opened the flood gates with a 73-yard
punt return early in the second quarter. Minutes later, Shrock found
receiver Willie Fiscus for a 44-yard scoring strike and Dallas Gomez ran
in the two point conversion for a 14-0 lead.
Shrock connected with Curtis Crandall for a 38-yard scoring play and
Brian Dies ran in the conversion. Still in the second quarter, Shrock
teamed with tight end Taylor Grosso on a 36-yard scoring strike before
running back Kyle Bonham scooted in for another conversion to boost
Huntington Beach to a 30-0 halftime lead.
The Dolphins running game clicked into high gear in the second half
behind an offensive line consisting of Jeremy Brink, Mitchell Kerwat,
Michael Peters, Victor Ordonez and Charlie Pickle. The line opened up a
huge hole for Michael Clark, who reached the end zone untouched on a
16-yard touchdown run. Gomez later would find Michael Patriarca on a
6-yard scoring pass and Gomez ran in the extra point to complete the
scoring.
Huntington Beach travels Saturday to take on the Corona Panthers.
