NMJAAF: Pee Wee Seahawks blank Fountain Valley
FOUNTAIN VALLEY - The Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football Pee
Wee Seahawks opened the 2001 season with a 14-0 win over the Fountain
Valley Jaguars Saturday afternoon.
Jacob Gildart scored both touchdowns for the Seahawks on runs of 30
and 40 yards, respectively. He also intercepted a Jaguar pass on defense
as well.
Justin Elbourn, Keifer Fairbanks, Andrew Hawkins, Bryce Jardine, James
McKennon, Corbin McNutt, Nick Reese, Frank Russo and Jerry Whitney
provided great line blocking on Gildart’s runs, while the Seahawk defense
was anchored by Will Brown, Brian Lawler, Travis Prickett, P.J. Simpson,
Richie Sorenson, Brice Stillman, Jon Tripi, Charles Vickery and Colin
Wigley.
In other NMJAAF action:
Carson 16, Junior Midget Seahawks 12 - Newport-Mesa started the season
on the wrong foot, falling to Carson after controlling most of the game.
After falling behind early, Newport-Mesa responded with a 55-yard
touchdown pass from John Angelo to Matt Reiger.
Late in the third quarter, the Seahawks scored again when Ryan Lance
found Reiger on a 30-yard streak in the corner of the end zone, giving
Newport-Mesa the lead, but Carson struck late in the fourth quarter to
pull out the win.
Inglewood 18, Clinic Seahawks 6 - Despite a 30-yard touchdown run from
Christian Anderson, the Seahawks could not find the win column as
Inglewood scored two second-half touchdowns to win.
Adrian Rodriguez, J.D. Abbott, Parker Norton, Kyle Chene and Nick
Taormina each ran well, while Troy Bundy complete five passes to Andy
Hayes and his backs.
The offensive and defensive lineman who led the way for Newport-Mesa
included Brett Klein, Ryan Hatcher, Jeremy Dunnjak, Trevor Dannelley,
Patric Wooding, Ronnie Dunmore, Steven Clapp, Grant Johnson, Andrew
Hicks, Chris Kraft, Jeff Aschieris and Nick Gushue.
Inglewood 12, Junior Pee Wee 0 - The Seahawks held the Jets to limited
success thanks to the strong play of Travis Sorenson, Max Steigler, Danny
Miller, Andrew MacDonald and Cloe Sheppard.
The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, led by Hunter
Alder, Andrew Fulcher, Scotty Chene, Michael Ensign, Woody Yokoyamma and
Nick Svendsen. The O-line opened holes for Austin Raiger and Bucko
Theriot, while quarterback Jordan Lusk completed a nice 15-yard pass to
Sorenson.
For the Junior Clinic Seahawks, in their matchup with the Carson
Colts, running backs Michael Taormina, Austin Blodgett and Blair Luchs
each provided some decent yardage, while the defense was anchored by John
Prickett, Justus Gildart, Ryan Andrews and Trent Anderson. The offensive
line was led by Mario Rosales, Hunter Durante, Tyler Barbato and Andrew
Machoskie.
