COSTA MESA - Former Orange Coast College baseball player Josh
McCanne will continue his athletic and academic careers at UC Santa
Barbara this fall, Pirates Coach John Altobelli said.
McCanne, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies after his senior year
at Mammoth Lakes High, redshirted at OCC in 1999 and played for the Bucs
in 2000 and 2001.
His .401 batting average in Orange Empire Conference play was the best
mark by a Pirate this spring and earned him a spot on the OEC’s second
team.
Overall, the first baseman was OCC’s second-best hitter with a .377
batting average, tallying 61 hits in 162 at bats. His 12 doubles and 35
RBIs also ranked second on the team.
He hit .268 as a freshman, hitting a pair of home runs while playing
third base.
