Beginners and other levels of chess players are invited to The Deep

Blue chess club meeting from noon to 1 p.m. the fourth Friday of each

month in the community room at the Huntington Beach Talbert Medical

Center, 19066 Magnolia Ave. (714) 378-2150.

SATURDAY

The Huntington Beach Art Center is showing an exhibition titled “It’s

Not What You Think It Is.” The show features works created by students

from three local middle schools and one high school. The exhibit will

also include works by their mentor and instructor. It is scheduled to run

through Aug 18. The opening reception will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug 2. The

center is open noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; noon to 8

p.m. Thursday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. It is closed Monday and Tuesday.

The center is located at 538 Main St.

SUNDAYThe Huntington Beach Playhouse is presenting, “Joseph and the

Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” Friday through August 26. The production

is a fun, hip biblical tale of the prophetic son Joseph who was sold into

slavery by his brothers. The show includes a contemporary blend of

calypso, rock & roll and country western music. Curtain is at 8 p.m.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at 7111 Talbert Ave.

Tickets are $14-$17 general and $7 on student Thursdays. For
