Godfrey, Keane named VU’s Athletes of the Year

COSTA MESA - Junior Megan Godfrey and senior Dennis Keane were
named Vanguard University Athletes of the Year, according to the Lions’
sports information department.
Godfrey was a two-sport athlete for the Lions as a member of the
women’s volleyball and tennis teams.
In volleyball, Godfrey led the Lions in kills (336) and digs (216) and
came through with 32 blocks and 23 service aces while being named the
team’s Most Valuable Player for the third year in a row.
As a tennis standout, Godfrey posted a 13-8 record as the Lions’ No. 5
singles player, helping her team reach the Region 2 Tournament.
Outside the playing fields, Godfrey is on the Leadership Committee of
the campus Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a committee
chairperson for the Student Athlete Advisory Council, all while posting a
3.97 grade-point average in mathematics.
Keane spent the past four years as the shooting guard for the men’s
basketball team.
This season, Keane led the Lions in points (536), rebounds (172) and
steals (62). His 17.9 scoring average ranked him third in the GSAC and
Keane was the Lions’ captain.
The two-time VU Athlete of the Week posted a 46-point performance
against seventh-ranked Christian Heritage on “Senior Night,” helping the
Lions pull off the 87-79 victory.
Keane ends his playing career with 1,990 points in 128 games and has
recently accepted his diploma from VU with a degree in communications.
