Prep baseball: Tars’ Brant first team

Newport Harbor High senior catcher Garrett Brant has been named
first-team All-Sea View League by the circuit’s baseball coaches.
Brant hit .427 with two homers and 21 RBIs for the Sailors, who are
represented on the second team by seniors Alan Lane, Joel Brown and Chris
Ward.
Lane, a second baseman, hit .311, while Brown and Ward were the Tars’
top two pitchers.
Brown went 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA as the No. 1 starter and Ward was 2-5
with four saves, fashioning a 4.14 ERA as the team’s primary reliever.
Irvine senior catcher Jon de Vries, who shared MVP laurels as a
junior, once again has been named Co-MVP, along with junior Dan
Miltenberger, who led Laguna Hills to the league crown.
