Furuya powers Cards over Marlins
Grant Furuya came up with the big hit the Cardinals needed Saturday
as his two-run home run in the third inning broke a 3-3 tie and sent the
Cards on their way to a 5-3 victory over the Marlins in Fountain Valley
Little League Majors Division play at Mile Square Park.
It was the second of two big hits for Furuya on the day as he also had
an RBI double. Teammate Gordon Edwards went 3 for 3.
The Marlins were led by Mitchell Tezak, who went 2 for 2, and Jeff
Spirk, who contributed with an RBI double.

* Devil Rays 7, Mariners 5
Alex Moreno’s third home run of the season highlighted the Devil Rays’
eight-hit attack, which saw Kevin Smisko finish 2 for 3 with two runs,
and Augie Greutmann and Jeff Dang each getting a double. Pitchers’ Les
Obie and Moreno combined for 13 strikeouts. The Mariners got singles and
runs scored from Justin Maddux and Jacob Bonham.
* Dodgers 4, Yankees 1
Joel Stanton doubled and also struck out 12 in a complete game
pitching effort to lead the Dodgers; Jeff Mitchell had an RBI single for
the Yankees.
MINOR A DIVISION
* Cardinals 10, Yankees 9
Johnny Brewer singled twice and Taylor Stanton doubled for the
Cardinals; Mike Doorbar, Sara Mitchell and Mike Delicce all singled twice
for the Yankees.
* Mets 10, Mariners 4
Chris Van Vuuren, Kyle Ball and Chris Kane each had key hits for the
Mets; Joe Peters tripled and doubled and Dillon Auxier also doubled for
the Mariners.
* Diamondbacks 7, Dodgers 6
Kyle Myers tripled and singled, Jordan Fernandez singled twice and
Zack LaMantain doubled for the D-backs; Jacob Landmon and Eric Toso each
singled twice and Kevin Osaki doubled for the Dodgers.
MINOR B DIVISION
* Cardinals 11, Yankees 7
Spencer Dalby and Robbie Daquila each had a key hit and Tyler Andreen
and James Hong both scored three runs for the Cardinals; Nicholas
Perruccio hit a three-RBI double and Ryan Strachan singled and scored
twice to lead the Yankees.
* Devil Rays 11, Marlins 9
The Devil Rays used timely hits by Bobby Kunkle, Austin Allen, Nick
Carrigan and Logan Kendig to post the victory; Matt Gale and Kody Ridens
tripled to lead the Marlins.
* Brewers 8, Pirates 4
Nick Loukides homered in the fifth inning and Julius Zarasate, Taylor
Inkster and Shelby Fischer also scored in the inning to clinch the win
for the Brewers. Patrick McGina doubled for the Pirates.
* Dodgers 20, Mariners 13
Ryan Silva and Skylar Yap tripled and Matt Thurston doubled for the
explosive Dodgers; Taylor Young and Scott Baker had singles for the
Mariners.
