Wazabinators top Mavericks in shootout
With first place in the Pee Wee Club Division riding on the outcome,
the Wazabinators survived a match that went to a shootout last weekend,
and went on to upend the division-leading Mavericks, 8-7.
By picking up a half-point with the win, the Wazabinators now share
the top spot in the division with the Mavericks. Both teams are 4-0-2.
Matthew Steinbrick paced the Wazabinators with three goals and an
assist. Raymond Sweller and Chaz Grant each scored once with two assists,
Ryan Onodera scored once and Brett Cooper had two assists.
For the Mavericks, Ryan Pelliccioni scored twice and had an assist,
Jason Krispel scored twice, Peter Ryan had a goal and an assist, Andrew
Watt scored once, Matthew Kleinhans had three assists and Jared Yonekura
assisted one goal.
In other games:
Elmos 12, Sabres 6
The Elmos had five different players get into the scoring act, led by
Kenny Gibo’s division-best five goals.
Gibo, who scored his team’s final three goals, also assisted four
other goals.
Jonathan Gibo nearly matched his brother by scoring four goals, with
one assist. Cameron Cepek and brothers Richard and Matthew Leitner, each
scored one goal.
Bryan Sakaguchi had four assists and Rhett Rakhshani and Tanner Riley
each had one assist.
Elmos’ goalie Tommy Tartaglione recorded 19 saves.
The victory improved the Elmos to 3-3.
Ricky Olson led the Sabres with two goals and an assist, Adam Springer
had a goal and a pair of assists, Nick Schultz scored once with an assist
and Austin Taylor scored once.
The Sabres dropped to 1-3.
