Kevin Larson of Huntington Beach, a graduate of St. Bonaventure and
Mater Dei High School, earned a doctorate in cognitive psychology from
the University of Texas at Austin. He is employed in the field of human
computer interaction at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash. . . . Leonie Crouch
of Huntington Beach passed all requirements to become a Certified Revenue
Officer in Business License through the California Municipal Business Tax
Assn. To earn this recognition, Crouch had to meet several years of job
experience and attend 30 hours of classes aimed at professional,
information and personal growth. Crouch is the first person from the
Business License to receive this certification. . . . Computers and
Special Education Instructor Michelle R. Wild of Coastline Community
College received the David R. Pierce Faculty Technology Award. Sponsored
by the Microsoft Corp., the award recognizes community college professors
who demonstrate enthusiasm for the use of technology and increase access
to technology skills for undeserved populations. . . . Huntington Beach
resident Ryan DuBose was elected student body president for Georgetown
University for 2001. DuBose is a 1998 graduate of Huntington Beach High
School. . . . Barbara Thorne of Huntington Beach has been chosen as a
semifinalist in the American Quilter’s Society 17th annual International
Competition. Thorne’s quilt, entitled “Retired!” joined 409 other quilts
from around the world last month as a part of the contest held in
Paducah, Ky. . . . Huntington Beach residents Dave Banner, James D.
Escribano, William J. Hencke and Mark M. Terril, and Fountain Valley
resident Jeffrey D. Curran graduated from Saddleback College’s paramedic
training program.
