Prep equestrian: CdM riders honored
CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar eight grader Nicole Kim, competing
for the CdM varsity in the Interscholastic Equestrian League, was honored
as the overall varsity hunt seat equitation and IEL medal champion at the
IEL’s recent postseason banquet.
Kim, who along with CdM High freshman Whitney Weidner led CdM to a
second-place overall team finish in the seven-show season, was also
second overall in equitation over fences.
The CdM junior varsity, consisting of freshmen Sydney Farrer, Julia
Koetting, Whitney Roy and Anne Schroeder, won the overall team
championship for the season, after finishing second overall in the
freshman division last season.
Koetting was the individual champion in equitation over fences.
All of CdM’s riders train at Windsong Farm with trainer Carrie Coker.
Ron Howard is the faculty advisor to the CdM equestrian team, which
competes against around 50 other IEL member schools from throughout the
Southland.
CdM fields teams in dressage, western and English disciplines and
riders are allowed to compete in up to five classes. Ribbons and points
are awarded for the first 12 finishers in each show and year-end honors
are awarded based on total points throughout the season.
