Men’s golf: Winston advances for Pirates
BAKERSFIELD - The Orange Coast College men’s golf team finished
ninth out of 10 schools at the Southern California Regionals Monday at
Rio Bravo Country Club.
OCC sophomore Brian Winston overcame a shaky first round and
106-degree temperatures to finish with an even-par 72 for a 36-hole score
of 149, earning a trip to the state championships, held at the Northridge
Country Club in Sacramento Monday.
“Brian knew he needed to shot a combined score of 149 to qualify and
with three holes to go, he was still two shots off that,” Coach Barry
Wallace said. “I’ll be darned if he didn’t birdie two of the last three
holes, advance to a playoff, win the playoff and move on to state. I’m
extremely proud of him.”
