Kenneth Yonkers was promoted to senior vice president of investments

and sales manager of Salomon Smith Barney’s Newport Beach office. Yonkers

is a graduate of Corona del Mar High School. . . . Orange Coast College

assistant professor of speech Norm Fricker was honored by Cal State

Fullerton’s College of Communications. He received Fullerton’s

Recognizing Excellence in Speech Communications Education award. . . .

Utah State student Marc Van Eden, son of Jack and Paula Van Eden of

Newport Beach, received the D.A. Greenwood Memorial Award in

biochemistry. . . . Jeremy Jehangiri of Costa Mesa returned from

Washington, D.C., where he completed an internship with Senate Minority

Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.). Jehangiri will graduate Saturday from

Northern State University in South Dakota. . . . Nelson Torres has been

named the April recipient of Vanguard University’s Outstanding Service

Award. Torres is a senior majoring in business administration at the

university in Costa Mesa. . . . Army National Guard Pvt. Rony Sou

graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville,

Mo. Sou is a graduate of Costa Mesa High School and the brother of Ross

Sou of Costa Mesa. . . . Orange Coast College’s student newspaper, the

Coast Report, won seven awards at the annual Journalism Assn. of

Community College’s competition held in Fresno. Ryan Pauley, David Song,

Gina Wright and Nha-Vinh Tran won awards for photography, headline

writing, news stories, editorials and information graphics. . . . Retired

Orange Coast College staff members John and Lillian Jeffers, who between

them worked 62 years at the college, will be awarded honorary associate

of arts degrees at the college’s commencement May 25. The couple retired

last year and now live in Perris.
