Reunion set for Richardson

NEWPORT BEACH - A reunion of former Newport Harbor High football
players, primarily from the 1948 and ’49 squads, will get together in
honor of Harlow Richardson, who died April 7 following a series of
medical setbacks the past five years, former Harbor teammate and Newport
Beach resident Hank Weber said Monday.
The reunion for Richardson, featured as a member of the Daily Pilot
Sports Hall of Fame on March 26, will be held at the Five Crowns
restaurant in Corona del Mar from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 29. Details:

Richardson, voted Tar of the Year in 1950 after excelling in football,
basketball and baseball, was also a gridiron standout at Orange Coast
College and Long Beach State.
Richardson died in Boulder, Colo. He was 68. Richardson is survived by
his wife, Sonya, and two children, Christy Cope and Kari. Richardson had
one grandchild, a three-month daughter.
“He was able to see his granddaughter and hold her,” Sonya Richardson
said Monday night.
Harlow Richardson read his Hall of Fame story in the Daily Pilot less
than two weeks before his passing.
