WHAT HAPPENED: The City Council on Monday decided to award federal
money to Humanity Housing, Inc., for a project converting apartments into
single-family condominiums at 1925 Pomona Ave.
The money, previously designated for multifamily housing
rehabilitation, was reallocated for single-family homeownership
acquisition and rehabilitation.
WHAT IT MEANS: Humanity Housing, Inc., is a Habitat for Humanity of
Orange County community housing development organization.
The organization plans to convert a building with six
two-bedroom/one-bathroom apartments into six two-bedroom/one-bathroom
condominiums with substantial rehabilitations, according to the staff
report.
VOTE: 5-0 to approve
WHAT HAPPENED: The Council approved a Vanguard University request to
issue revenue bonds by the Health and Educational Facilities Authority of
the State of Missouri.
WHAT IT MEANS: The council will use the bonds, approved for as much as
$120.8 million, to make a loan to Assemblies of God Financial Services
Group.
The Assemblies of God Financial Services Group will use some of the
money to finance and reimburse the cost of educational facilities owned
and operated by Vanguard University.
VOTE: 5-0 to approve
WHAT HAPPENED: The Council appointed members to three of its
committees: the Advisory Committee of Teens, the Child Care and Youth
Services Committee and the Cultural Arts and Historical Resources
Committee.
The council did not make appointments to its Human Relations Committee
because the city received no interest forms or letters of interest for
the committee.
WHAT IT MEANS: The Council appointed Allison Coleman and Lea Alfi as
regular members of the Advisory Committee of Teens, with Lindsay Freeman,
Allyne Garcia and Magen Leigh Hunt as alternates.
Kathleen Hanold, Karen Ursini, Noriko Ishikawa, Alison Bell and Jane
Garland are regular members on the Child Care and Youth Services
Committee and Ingrid Anderson and Jeannie Burns are alternates.
The Cultural Arts and Historical Resources Committee includes regular
members Edward Baker, Steve Golian, Karen Raab, Emily Keller, Kathleen
Eric and alternate Thomas Tom.
WHAT HAPPENED: The Council voted to make it easier for the council,
staff and audience to see the action in the City Council chambers.
WHAT IT MEANS: City staff will make improvements, such as removing the
boxes that house the big-screen projectors, installing seven 10.5-inch
(liquid crystal display) LCD monitors and installing television equipment
in Conference Room 1A to allow public meetings to be videotaped.
Study sessions are often held in Conference Room 1A.
VOTE: 3-2 to approve, with Councilwoman Linda Dixon and Councilman
Chris Steel dissenting.
