IRVINE - The Corona del Mar High softball team was defeated by
Villa Park, 7-4, Monday in the second round of consolation play in the
Woodbridge Tournament at Bob Barber Park.
Monday’s loss came after the Sea Kings split a pair Saturday, when
they defeated Serra, 7-1, after a 3-2 loss to Faith Baptist.
In the victory over Serra, senior Mijanou Pham tossed a complete-game
two-hitter, while freshman outfielder Katrina Ridelscheimer, called up
from the junior varsity, was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Alissa Zoelle went 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the six-hit attack
against Villa Park.
CdM Coach Terry Christiano said freshmen Sara Stern and Anika Gaar
also performed well in their first varsity action, after spending the
season with the JV.
Sophomore Meaghan Bunney had a double and drove in a run with a walk
against Villa Park.
CdM (9-7) returns to tournament play with two games Saturday, against
opponents to be determined.
