Softball: Lions sweep past Hope International

FULLERTON - The Vanguard University softball team had little
trouble defeating Hope International in a Golden State Athletic
Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Lions defeated the Royals, 9-1, in the opener and, 8-0,
in the nightcap.
Gina Liebengood pitched five innings and allowed only two hits with
five strikeouts in the opener, while Nikki Benning and Celina Camarillo
each had three hits and two runs scored for the Lions (28-16, 9-7 in
conference).
In the nightcap, Jenny Willis pitched a complete-game four-hitter with
four strikeouts, while Jessica Thompson when 3 for 4 with a run scored
and one RBI.
Vanguard’s offense exploded for 17 runs on 25 hits. The Lions continue
action April 19 at Chapman, beginning at 5 p.m.
