Boys volleyball: Eagles sweep Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA - The Estancia High boys volleyball team picked a fine

time to earn its first win of the season, defeating crosstown-rival Costa

Mesa, 15-8, 15-13, 15-7.

Dan Wotta led the Eagles (1-4, 1-0 in league) with seven kills, while

Don Phan chipped in six.

Setter Nick Rycroft paced Estancia’s attack with 21 assists.

“We’ve been improving each match and it’s nice to be on the winning

end this time,” Estancia Coach Tracy Heims said. “We wanted to set the

pace early and we were able to do that. Any time you can beat Costa Mesa,

it’s always exciting.”

The Eagles look to make it two in a row when they play at Laguna Beach
