Softball: Sailors handle Sea Kings
CORONA DEL MAR - Athena Vasquez had three hits and four RBIs to
lead the Newport Harbor High softball team past crosstown rival Corona
del Mar, 6-1, Thursday afternoon.
The Sailors’ leadoff hitter came through with an RBI single in the
second inning and cleared the bases with a three-run double in the sixth.
Shelby Crisp when 3 for 3, while Stephanie Ciralli and Sara Gorman
each had two hits to help pace Newport’s 15-hit attack.
Newport pitcher Kim Moore went the distance and allowed only three
hits with six strikeouts and no earned runs.
The Sailors (5-3-2) will compete at the Garden Grove Tournament
Saturday morning at Lake School, with games at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
