Mets topple Giants, 9-1
The pitching trio of Jon Grothe, Garrett Shinn and Troy Davis combined
to toss a three-hitter last weekend to lead the Mets to a 9-1 victory
over the Giants in Ocean View Little League Majors Division play.
Grothe struck out seven in three innings, Davis struck out six in two
innings and Shinn had one strike out in an inning of work. Each of the
three pitchers yielded a single hit.
Offensively for the Mets, Davis picked up a two-RBI single in the
first inning, Shinn had two hits, Michael Cherf had a hit and two RBI and
Scott Melchert doubled and singled with two RBI and scored twice.
For the Giants, Kyle Hughes had an RBI double and Travis Geery
doubled.
In other games:
Dodgers 7, Yankees 3
John Tomasek had an RBI, Michael Patriarca delivered a two-RBI double
and Aaron Chatigny and Ryan Bautista hit singles during a four-run first
inning that put the Dodgers in control. Tomasek finished with two hits.
Joseph Park had an RBI double for the Yankees.

MINOR B DIVISION
Red Sox 10, Dodgers 4
The Red Sox broke open a tie game by scoring six runs in the fourth
inning. Trenton Schamel had two hits and an RBI, Jacob Pascoe got his
first hit of the season and Nick Smith made a key defensive stop in
center field for the Dodgers.
IN SEAVIEW LITTLE LEAGUE ACTION:
MAJORS DIVISION
Pirates 4, Yankees 3
The first home runs of Seaview’s Majors Division 2001 season were hit
by the Yankees’ Pat Cox (first inning) and the Pirates’ Cort Ross (third
inning). Ross also had a single teammate Eric Uttecht doubled and
singled. The Yankees Bryan Kobylka had a single and a triple and also
pitched a complete game, with four strikeouts and seven hits. Ross and
Kyle Higashioka pitched for the Pirates and combined to strike out 10.
Dodgers 13, Reds 3
The Dodgers needed just four innings to win this one, pounding out 13
runs on nine hits. Tyler Chapman led the offense with a pair of triples
and a single, Logan Strook singled twice with an RBI and Greg Davis and
AJ Wukawitz each had two singles. Davis and Bryan Visnoski combined on
the mound to strike out seven and allow just four singles by the Reds’
Nolan Marcucci, Matt Fockler, Derrick Bauermeister and Rob McCarty.
Cardinals 8, Angels 0
Cardinal pitchers Austin Morgan and Carl Eberts limited the Angels to
three hits and recorded five strikeouts. Offensively, Morgan had a single
and double Jason Birk had two hits and Eberts and Aaron Amaral each
doubled. For the Angels, David McLaughlin doubled and also teamed with
Johnny Schoenberger on the mound to strike out seven.
