Boy injured after being hit by car
A 7-year-old Surf City boy was in stable condition and doing well
Wednesday after being struck by car while wandering in the street, police
said.
The boy, Alexander Shields, was apparently walking near his Starlight
Lane home at 4:37 p.m. Tuesday when he suddenly darted onto Wishing Well
Avenue as a vehicle drove by, said Lt. Bruce Kelly with the Huntington
Beach Police Department.
Huntington Beach resident Arthur Jezak, 47, was driving a blue 1996
Honda Accord when he saw the boy come in the street. He tried to stop,
but couldn’t in time, police added.
Paramedics at the scene initially thought the boy’s injuries were
critical, but upon arriving to the UCI Medical Center, Shields’ condition
listed as stable.
Shields suffered multiple abrasions in the accident, and is undergoing
additional diagnostics to determine the full extent of his injuries, said
Laura Hennum, a spokeswoman for the medical center.
Police officials issued no citations at the scene of the accident, and
the traffic bureau is conducting an investigation of the incident.
