Cards, Devil Rays two for two

The Cardinals and Devil Rays each posted two victories last weekend in

Fountain Valley Little League Majors Division play.

The Cardinals topped the Mariners, 11-5 and the Marlins, 3-2.

Zach Cardinelli had two hits, Grant Furuya tripled and Ricky Rea

singled against the Mariners, who received two hits from both Justin

Maddux and Ryan Buckles, and a pair of doubles from Joe Musser and Matt

Hernandez.

Gordon Edwards had a two-RBI double and Furuya struck out eight in six

innings against the Marlins. Jeff Spirk doubled three times and also

struck out eight in three scoreless innings for the Marlins and Ryan

Haskin and John Spirk added doubles.

Five was the lucky number for the Devil Rays, who defeated the

Yankees, 5-1 and edged the Mariners, 5-4.

Les Obie, Alex Moreno and Kevin Smisko each singled twice and Moreno

and Smisko combined for 11 strikeouts in the win over the Yankees. Mark

Cubberly and Jeff Mitchell singled twice for the Yankees. Against the

Mariners, Moreno doubled and singled. The Mariners got a home run from

Cael Hill and doubles by Maddux and Buckles.

Marlins 11, Dodgers 6

Bobby Johnson singled and tripled, Jeff Spirk singled twice and

struck out seven in three no-hit innings and Ryan Haskin doubled for the

Marlins.

Yankees 4, Dodgers 1

Kris Wysong singled twice and Robert Johnson struck out five in three

shutout innings for the Yankees. Joel Stanton had an RBI triple for the

Dodgers.

MINOR A DIVISION

Dodgers 12, Diamondbacks 6

Josh Troche doubled and singled and Eric Toso tripled for the Dodgers.

Tyler Buckles homered and Kyle Meyers tripled and singled for the

Diamondbacks.

Mets 1, Mariners 0

Pitchers Kyle Ball and Chris Martinez combined for a one-hitter (a

single by Jack Peterson) and Jerry Lewis hit two singles to lead the

Mets, who earlier defeated the Diamondbacks, 21-4, behind three hits by

Martinez and two each by Chrys Kane and Daniel Castle.

Cardinals 6, Yankees 1

Johnny Brewer singled and struck out nine in four innings of shutout

ball for the Cardinals. Garrett Kacsuta had an RBI-triple for the

Yankees.

MINOR B DIVISION

Devil Rays 15, Dodgers 9

Chad Martin ripped a home run, double and single and Austin Allen

doubled for the Devil Rays. Justin Tarbell doubled for the Dodgers.

Mariners 10, Marlins 8

Kazunoi Nishikawa scored three times for the Mariners. Cody Ridens

homered and Randy Brownfield had two hits to lead the Marlins.

Brewers 10, Yankees 9

Moses Hershberger tripled to lead the Brewers. Kiefer Smith hit a home

run and Nicholas Percaccio doubled for the Yankees.
