NHBA Pony: Mets take care of Pelicans

NEWPORT BEACH - The Mets managed to overcome some strong opposition

to defeat the Pelicans, 8-2, Saturday, in Newport Harbor Baseball

Association Pony Division action (ages 13-14).

For the Pelicans, Chris Thompson had a hit, an RBI and stole four

bases, Matt Erickson had a double and threw out a baserunner at the plate

and Curt Yacko added two singles, three stolen bases and pitched six

innings with seven strikeouts.

In Bronco Division action (ages 11-12):

Indians 8, Cardinals 6 - Nathan Todd went 2 for 3 including a double

and two RBIs to lead the Indians’ attack.

Jackson Massingill added two doubles and an RBI, while Josh Jobse,

T.J. Fish, Kyle Rohan and Andrew Kaban each added RBI hits.

The Indians’ pitching foursome of Kaban, Todd, Rohan and Garrett

Gordon combined to strikeout 13 Cardinals in the game.

In Mustang Division (ages 9-10):

Red Sox 4, Yankees 3 - Randall Hause drove in the winning run with a

late-inning single for the Red Sox.

Ryan Albert, Max Moyer and Bobby Okvist each had two hits for the Red

Sox, while Eric Holland and Alex Rios chipped in with key hits and RBIs.

The Yankees were led by strong pitching from Elliott Kaufman, Justin

Todd and Kyle Lawrence.

Yankees 8, Rockies 7 - Despite the close loss, the Marlins were led by

Cody Green, who went 2 for 3 and scored one run and Levi Rowe, who added

a two-run double.

The Rockies’ pitching was led by Matt Sarvak, Jason Harris and Mike

Razzano.

Rockies 9, Giants 3 - Matt Sarvak went 3 for 3 with a single, double

and home run to lead the Rockies over the Giants.

Robert Puncel and Cody Green each went 2 for 2, while Spencer Venegas

went 1 for 2 with three RBIs.

On the mound, the Rockies were led by Clay Baker, Mike Razzano, Cam

Koppel and Jay Ordaz.

For the Giants, Adrian Luchs pitched three solid innings and went 2

for 3 with a triple, while Stuart Newsom pitched well.

In Pinto Division (ages 7-8) action:

For the Cardinals, in their matchup with the Cubs, Jed Gentry, David

Martinez, Paul Newman, Craig Picetti, Nelson Simons, Matt Bancroft and

Charlie Massingill each had key hits. The Cardinals’ pitching trio of

Massingill, Bancroft and Simons combined to strikeout 12.

The Braves, in their matchup with the Devil Rays, were led by the

strong play from Zach Braudin, Steve Denghausen, Aaron Newman, Jamie

Davis, Spencer Rautas, Jake Black, Luke Dawson and Rick Sullivan. The

Devil Rays’ Zach Zomaya made a strong play at second base to kill a

Braves’ rally.
