NBLL Majors: Reds outlast Dodgers

NEWPORT BEACH - The Reds needed over three hours and 11 innings to

finally take care of the pesky Dodgers, 5-4, in Newport Beach Little

League Majors Division action.

Bryan Burke, who pitched six strong innings for the Reds, broke the

4-4 tie in the top of the 11th inning when he scored on a Dodgers’ error.

Other strong Reds contributors included Andrew Silva, Jake Lemmerman,

Tyler Ellis and J.P. Gormly.

The Dodgers were sparked by the strong play of Alan Hardison, Luke

Greiner, Kelsey Chase, Alex Johnston and Spencer Brown.

In other Majors Division action:

Mariners 6, Giants 5 - The Mariners overcame a 3-0 deficit to pull out

the win over the Giants.

Erick and Kevin Rask each played important roles in the Mariners’

offense. The Giants were led by Phillip Bannan, who drove in three runs

with a bases-loaded double.

Mariners 6, Braves 2 - Bobby Manning, Tom Solis, Nick Freeman and

Nicholas Russo-Larsson each scored runs, Willie Harrison pitched three

scoreless innings and Devon Kelly went 3 for 4 for the Mariners.

Jordan Taormina went 2 for 2, Tom Koss added a triple and single and

pitcher Thomas Dialynas pitched three strong innings for the Braves.

Mariners 13, Angels 3 - Devon Kelly and Erick Rask each scored three

runs to lead the Mariners over the Angels.

Tom Solis and Kevin Rask combined to pitch effectively for the M’s,

while Bryce Donovan had two hits, one run scored and three RBIs.

Michael Page had two hits to lead the Angels.

Yankees 8, Braves 4 - The Yankees, behind the strong pitching from

Patrick Brennan and Patrick Marin-Finn, doubled-up the Braves.

The Yanks’ offense was sparked by Robbie Lusk, who two hits and three

RBIs. Vinnie Saint John and Zack Von Berg each had two hits in the win.

Austin Harms, Thomas Dialynas and Tom Koss led the Braves’ attack,

while Jordan Taormina threw out a Yankee runner at the plate from left

field.

Yankees 2, Giants 1 - Kyle Legrand and Zachary Von Berg held the

Giants to only one run in the Yankees’ win.

Vinnie Saint John had two hits and one RBI to spark the Yankees’

offense.

Phillip Bannan pitched a complete game for the hard-luck Giants.

Yankees 5, Angels 0 - Vinnie Saint John pitched three strong innings

and recorded seven strikeouts to lead the Yankees over the Angels.

Kyle Legrand struck out four over three innings of work for the Yanks,

while Zack Von Berg had two hits and two RBIs.

The Angels received three strong innings of work from pitcher Barrett

Hendrickson, while Mike Page and Scott Thomsen each had two hits.

In AAA Division action:

Tigers 6, Mets 4 - Steven Manning pitched three strong innings and

received defensive help from Jesse Starnes to lead the Tigers over the

Mets.

Trevor Jones pitched the final three innings for the Tigers, striking

out seven and allowing only two base runners. The offense was led by

Jones, Tom Bangert, Denny Powers and Austin McCarthy.

For the Mets, the pitching crew of Matt Morris, Jeffery Jones and

Brian Hurst kept the game close.

Dodgers 13, Yankees 7 - Dillon Norton had three hits, including an

inside-the-park home run, while Noah Molnar chipped in three clutch hits

to lead the Dodgers over the Yankees.

Gavin Koontz scored two runs and made a nice defensive play for the

Dodgers, while the Yankees were led by Ryan Spitzer, Andrew Watt and

Chase Stark.

In AA Division action:

Angels 12, Mets 8 - The strong pitching of Cory Vitalo and Nick

Couchot led the Angels to the win over the Mets.

Brett Berkley, Jack Gerdau, Andrew Dunlap and Brent Gray each had key

hits for the Angels, while Emory Molinar, Patrick Vorwerck, Derek

Spreitzer, Hunter O’Brien, Chris Seagren and Austin Allen anchored the

defense.

The Mets were led by Kyle Canale, who had a key RBI single in the

first inning.

Angels 7, Dodgers 0 - Cory Vitalo, Nick Couchot and Jack Gerdau

combined to pitch a two-hit shutout to lead the Angels over the Dodgers.

Supporting the pitching staff was strong offense from Brett Berkley

(two hits, two RBIs) and Chris Seagren (two runs scored).

Kyle Jones had both hits for the Dodgers.

Mariners 10, Braves 6 - Five Mariners had multi-hit games in their win

over the Braves.

John Christian had a double and a home run, while Trevor McGhie,

Dillon Campbell, Matt Ruiz and Doug Watt each added two hits apiece.

Solid Mariners defense was turned in by Alec Pastre, Zac Cabin, Dylen

Salisbury and Anthony Mainero.

For the Braves, Stephen Grant, Michael Merline, Conner Gaughan, Peter

Fraaza, Andrew Iverson, Kevin Pinelli and Collin Krahe each had key hits.

Mariners 7, Diamondbacks 7 - The Mariners were sparked by solid,

all-around play from Mitch Gardiner, John Christian, Dillon Campbell,

Alec Pastre, Alex Waddle, Doug Watt, Matt Ruiz and Alex Mainthow.

The Diamondbacks had strong contributions from Scott Hansen, Mattias

Russo-Larson, Brooks Bradley, John Doering, Cameron Holmes, Benny

Townsend and Parker Seaman.

Dodgers 19, Cardinals 9 - Jarrett Logan, Nick Flamson and Kyle Jones

each had three hits to lead the Dodgers over the Cardinals.

Pitchers Karl Fletcher and Kyle Danese combined to strikeout eight

Cardinal batters, while Chase Nugent, David Weiland, Carter Taylor, Chris

Burke and Gustaf Hellmer provided stellar defense.

The Cardinals were led by Josh Starnes, D.J. Hauser, Jake Starnes and

Matt Wilkerson.
