Boys volleyball: Mesa earns first win

COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa High boys volleyball team rallied to

earn its first victory of the season Wednesday, topping nonleague visitor

Santa Ana, 13-15, 15-11, 12-15, 15-4, 15-7.

Junior Carlos Jaime (16 kills and seven blocks) played the best match

of his career, according to Mustangs Coach Dave Sorrells, who also

received strong play from Mike Payne (13 kills and 13 blocks).

Sorrells also singled out sophomore Jason Hardy and junior Eduardo

Moreno, whom he said both came off the bench to help the Mustangs (1-3)

turn the tide.

Mesa opens Pacific Coast League action Wednesday at Estancia,

tentatively scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
