Boys golf: Ayala defeats Sailors

CHINO HILLS - Host Ayala High rallied from a four-stroke deficit

after the first nine holes to claim a 424-433 nonleague victory over

Newport Harbor in the second half of an 18-hole nonleague boys golf match

Wednesday at Los Serranos Golf Course.

Ayala’s Joey Lopez shot 2-over 39 to claim medalist honors Wednesday,

battling severe conditions that Sailors Coach Marianne Towersey said

included winds up to 30 mph.

Michael Hussey (41), Tom Werbe (43), Nick Zimmerman (45), Chris Greer

(45) and Nick Farrell (46) scored for Newport Harbor (3-8).

The Sailors try for their first Sea View League victory today, when

Laguna Hills visits Big Canyon Country Club.
