Boys tennis: Sailors handle Aztecs

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High No. 3 doubles team of Jason

Lund and Jack Banta won two tiebreakers to sweep and help the Sailors

earn a 14-4 nonleague victory over visiting La Quinta Wednesday.

Lund, a sophomore, and Banta, a junior, won, 8-6 and 7-5 in the

tiebreakers.

Newport also got a doubles sweep from Warren Schaffer and Colin Duncan

to improve to 2-4.

Singles - Hirst (NH) lost to Truong, 5-7, def. Huynh, 6-1, def. Luu,

6-0; Nguyen (NH), lost, 0-6, won, 6-4, 6-4; 3. Uhl (NH) lost, 4-6, won,

6-4, 6-1.

Doubles - Lutfy-Deck (NH) lost to Tran-Suny, 5-7, def. Ngo-Vinh, 6-1,

def. D. Nguyen-V. Nguyen, 7-5; Schaffer-Duncan (NH) 6-2, 6-1, 6-0;

Lund-Banta (NH) won, 7-6, (8-6), 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2.
