More than 225 Orange County high school students were on hand for

Orange Coast College’s 17th annual High School Dance Day. The event is

designed to encourage high school students to consider further study in

the field of dance. . . . Jim Carnett, Orange Coast College’s director of

marketing and community relations for the past 30 years, will receive a

national award for career achievement from the National Council for

Marketing and Public Relations. . . . Shlemmer and Kamus and Algaze, one

of the region’s leading architecture and interior design firms, has

opened an office in Newport Beach. The 13-year-old firm provides

workplace solutions for landlords and tenants in Southern California. . .

. Daniel G. Amen, a neuropsychiatrist in the Bay Area; Harold Burch, a

New York designer; and Mary Hornbuckle, former Costa Mesa mayor and

director of the St. Mark Community Preschool in Newport Beach will be

inducted into Orange Coast College’s Alumni Hall of Fame in April. . . .

Chanelle Sladies, 16, of Newport Beach is among 58 competitors from

Southern California who qualified through the San Gabriel and Southern

California conferences at the USA Snowboard Assn. National Championships.

She will also compete in the Junior World Championships in Italy. Other

Newport Beach qualifiers are J.P. Collett, 17; Morgan Collett, 17; and

Morgan Hill, 16. Qualifying from Costa Mesa is Matt Caldwell, 21. . . .

Alison Ashton of Newport Beach made the dean’s list for the fall semester

at the University of Arizona. . . . Catherine J. Rasch of Costa Mesa made

the dean’s list for the fall semester at Bucknell University in

Pennsylvania. . . . Kayley Harrington, 18, of Newport Beach and Chelsea

Lo, 17, of Corona del Mar were part of a statewide Youth Tobacco Advocacy

Workgroup and spoke to 350 youth about the American Lung Society’s Teens

Kick Ash! program. . . . Michael Lawrence of the Marcus and Millichap

Real Estate Investment Brokerage Co. in Newport Beach helped to sell a

$3.275-million building in San Clemente. . . . The Costa Mesa-based

Carter and Burgess office, formerly Coleman/Caskey Architects, has been

selected to provide design services for the University Synagogue project

in Irvine.
